What are your outstanding qualities?
Your kids like you. Their parents compliment you. Your senior pastor isn’t in your office with “concerns.” You may feel more confident. But how do you get better? And what do you get better at doing? How do you know you are becoming a better youth minister?
The Youth Ministry Institute is committed to the complete development of youth ministers. While instruction in best practices and theology is extremely valuable, there is more to being an outstanding youth minister. Growth happens in many different ways.
HUMAN eX Ventures, in partnership with the Youth Ministry Institute, has developed a powerful tool that measures 13 critical competencies, enabling youth ministers to be outstanding. Following a one hour interview, trained assessors will write a profile detailing areas of strength and development. Our staff will review the profile with you, helping to give insight to the specifics of where you might grow next. In addition, YMI uses a developmental tool, through personal case studies, to increase youth ministers’ aptitude for each core competency.
What makes a youth minister outstanding? Here is what we know, measure and develop.
Purpose
Positivity – Trust – Spirituality – Self-Responsibility
Outstanding youth ministers consider the work they do to be a calling in life, and derive a sense of meaning and purpose from leading young people. These youth ministers never compromise their integrity or personal code of ethics, and are viewed as honest and honorable in their interactions with others. Because they are honest and fair in how they treat others, these individuals are capable of developing high levels of trust with the young people they lead.
Relationships
Personable – Integrity – Empathy – Communication
Outstanding youth ministers have a natural ability to build lasting, meaningful relationships with other people. These individuals are excellent at facilitating two-way communication, but are particularly gifted when it comes to listening and creating an environment where others feel comfortable to share their thoughts. Being highly empathetic, these youth ministers are able to sense how other people are feeling and respond in supportive, caring ways.
Mobilization
Motivation – Objectivity – Mastery – Organization – Generator of Alternatives
Outstanding youth ministers truly value the talents and abilities of each young person they lead. Viewing each person as unique, these youth ministers recognize the best ways to individually support and encourage the growth and development of their young people. Because outstanding youth ministers have an insatiable desire to learn, they continuously seek out and apply new information to help them improve within their roles. These individuals frequently reflect on how young people are responding to their mentoring and leadership, and are always open to new approaches in providing the best possible learning environment for young people.
