Youth Minister – Bastrop, TX


Position Description:

Calvary Episcopal Church in Bastrop, TX, seeks a Youth Minister.  We envision the current youth of Calvary in 7th to 12th grade and those we reach experiencing the following in the coming years as we are formed and transformed together:
  • Building meaningful and supportive relationships with God and each other
  • Having a safe place for conversation about God, self, stress, and our place in the world
  • Enjoying intergenerational relationships that enrich everyone and reflect the fullness of the body of Christ
  • Serving the church and those in need based on their gifts and talents
  • Going on summer pilgrimages to serve those on the margins, enlarge their worldview, make lifelong memories, and have fun
  • Sharing stories about the faith, hope, and experience of their spiritual journeys
In order to realize this vision, we are looking for a prayerful, grounded, and fun leader who can:
  • Build appropriate, life-giving relationships with youth and families
  • Rebuild our youth ministry to address their stated and unstated needs, wants, hopes, and concerns
  • Identify time, place, and frequency for regular gatherings
  • Evaluate and choose curriculum to guide gatherings
  • Actively recruit, train and support adult mentors, volunteers, and facilitators for youth ministry
  • Lead youth ministry gatherings regularly
  • Plan monthly offsite activities for fun and service and an annual summer mission trip that meet Safeguarding policies
  • Organize Youth Fundraisers as needed for special events and mission trips
  • Communicate about youth ministry opportunities in weekly Calvary Scroll email blast and group text
  • Work with students to curate appropriate, compelling content for communication platforms

Position Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Christ, the Church, and young people
  • Have a working knowledge of child development, youth culture, adolescent spirituality, and age-appropriate phases and relationships
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with a volunteer team to design, develop, and implement a vibrant, comprehensive, growing, and sustainable ministry
  • High school or GED required with some college preferred
  • Ability to do self-directed work in a fast-paced, cross-platform environment and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong time-management, organization, flexibility, and problem-solving
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, the use of office technology and social media
  • Honesty and confidentiality
  • Sense of humor is a plus - we like to laugh around here!
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn the beliefs, practices and vocabulary of The Episcopal Church
  • Must pass background check and be Safeguarding God’s Children & People certified to comply with church requirements
  • Complete other tasks as required or assigned as needed
The Youth Minister position is 10 hours per week. Some of those hours will likely be worked on Sunday mornings and the other hours are flexible depending on youth event schedule and your schedule. More hours may be required in preparation for special events while fewer hours may be necessary during certain times of the year. The annual salary is $10,000 or $19.23/hour Four weeks of Paid Time Off per year in the first through fifth year of employment, and six weeks of Paid Time Off thereafter.
