Old Mission United Methodist Church is seeking a full-time Director of Youth Ministry who desires to lead a dynamic student ministry program in one of the largest United Methodist churches in the Kansas City area.  The ideal candidate will provide a spiritual and relational Christian leadership to our youth and be a passionate advocate for our 6th – 12th graders.  The Director is responsible for overseeing the entire youth ministry program including Sunday school, Youth group, Youth Council, and yearly mission trips.  The candidate must have the ability to work with the Church staff, youth volunteers, students and others to develop, implement and evaluate the youth ministry program.

Primary responsibilities:
·         Provide leadership and direction for all programming in Rezlife West Student Ministries, which include both the Middle School Ministry (6th-8th grades) and High School Ministry (9th-12th grades). Various ministry programming includes youth groups, small groups, confirmation, Sunday School, mission trips, and special events (i.e. camps, retreats). Serve as the lead communicator at Rezlife West programs and events.
·         Provide strategic planning and visioning for Rezlife West Student Ministries. This includes setting goals and direction, establishing new ministry opportunities, and evaluating existing programs.
·         Manage, motivate and equip staff, volunteers, and student leaders to effectively mobilize Rezlife West for ministry with students.
·         Regularly connect and converse with teenagers in and outside of the program setting, provide exceptional care and support to Rezlife West students and families during times of need, and lead a process for effective follow-up of first-time visitors to student programming.
 Main qualifications:
·         3-5 years’ experience in full-time youth ministry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
·         Exceptional interpersonal skills, with proven track record of developing quality relationships; a recognized aptitude for interpersonal engagement, structured dialogue, and diplomacy.
·         Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills, mastery of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to coordinate events and projects. Capable of maintaining confidences, effectively listening and communication; able to resolve conflicts, and conduct one on one counseling sessions, as needed

Director of Youth Ministries, Lenexa, KS (part-time)

Lenexa United Methodist Church in Lenexa, Kansas, seeks a half-time Director of Youth Ministries (grades 7 through 12) staff position – 20 hours approximate. Position could potentially grow into a full-time role.


The Youth Director will provide spiritual and relational Christian leadership for Lenexa United Methodist Youth in the 7th through 12th grades. The Director of Youth Ministries will work with the Church Leadership Team and will provide the primary leadership for youth programming, along with adult volunteers. This will include weekly youth meetings, regularly scheduled classes (Sunday School, Confirmation, etc.); worship inclusion, fellowship programs, and service projects that will include district and conference activities and events.  In addition, responsibilities will include:

  • Grow the youth ministry by creating an attractive, vibrant, and compelling environment to which our youth can invite and attract others to the church.
  • Build and support a team of passionate adult volunteers who provide diverse ability to lead, coach and mentor youth.
  • Challenge the youth to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and the world.
  • Build a ministry that engages with local Middle and High schools in the area and connects with the youth in their activities.
  • Love youth for who they are and where they are in their faith journey.


  • Embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Vision and demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers
  • Previous experience leading a youth ministry program is desired
