Director for Children and Youth, Overland Park, KS (part-time)


The Director of Children and Youth is a new part-time position (25 hours per week including Sundays and other times as agreed) at Village Presbyterian Church on Antioch in Overland Park, Kanasas. The Director will lead faith formation among children and youth with a relational, creative, and collaborative approach and cultivate new opportunities that encourage youth and children to live out their faith in the world.

Children and Youth Responsibilities

  • Direct and serve as staff support for children and youth ministries with a passion for faith formation and spiritual development
  • Establish healthy, appropriate relationships with children and youth and provide resources and care for them in times of need
  • Lead and facilitate the process of recruitment, training, and support for volunteers in youth and children’s ministry, including, but not limited to youth leaders and Formation hour teachers
  • Teach middle/high school Formation class on Sunday morning
  • Develop new faith formation opportunities, both in and out of the Sunday morning Formation hour, and enhance and adapt current opportunities (e.g., youth group, volunteering, etc.)
  • Working with Site Pastor and volunteers, provide curriculum for meaningful, age-appropriate formation curriculum
  • Continue the purposeful inclusion of children and youth in worship
  • Ensure the training of, and adherence to, our Child and Youth Protection Policy by adult volunteers
  • Coordinate nursery coverage for Sunday mornings and special events
  • Provide leadership and support for and participate in periodic off-site opportunities: e.g., leading mission trips, retreats, day camps, etc., with children and youth
  • Collaborate in planning and implementation of Vacation Bible School
  • Establish, and lead/recruit leaders for a Confirmation class
  • Create a schedule of “milestones” for our young people as they grow in the faith
  • Work with Preschool Director to plan and implement joint opportunities for parents at children at the church and Preschool
  • Collaborate with staff at both campuses and volunteers at VOA to plan and implement youth and children’s ministry at the church, in the community, and within the presbytery
  • Undertake other duties as assigned

Other Responsibilities

  • Ability to work Sundays and evenings
  • Some overnight travel required
  • Regularly participate in worship leadership
  • Serve as backup for ProPresenter presentation software


  • Able to support the mission and ministry of Village Presbyterian Church and model the church’s values
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with children and youth (birth – high school graduation)
  • A creative and open spirit
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to utilize social media / text / email and other forms of communication
  • Comfort with a variety of software and hardware
  • Experience in Christian Education, youth leadership, education, or some related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Youth Ministry, or 5 years related experience preferred
